Highlight on preventative maintenance

A lot of kitchen knives come across the bench for sharpening. I’ve seen knives in all kinds of different conditions. Most of the wooden handles I see don’t look like this.

Usually the wood is dried out and split, trapping a lot of junk in the cracks. Sometimes the blade is coming loose from the handle itself. Not safe.

These were a breath of fresh air and really nice to see. Look at those wooden handles!

This customer has obviously taken care of them over the years. They look brand new. I had to ask him. He’s big on preventative maintenance he tells me, regularly oiling the wood and lightly using steel wool to clean them.

Now he’s got some wicked sharp blades to go along with those amazing wooden handles. It felt good putting on new edges, knowing that he really appreciates them.
